University Of Bridgeport Promises Lower Tuition For Connecticut Residents

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The University of Bridgeport has launched its Connecticut Promise — a program to allow Connecticut residents to attend the private university at a cost comparable to a public college education.

Under the Connecticut Promise, no in-state first-time freshmen will pay more than $18,500 for tuition, fees, and room an board after all financial aid has been awarded.

Beginning in fall 2016, UB’s Connecticut Promise guarantees that first-time, full-time freshmen residing in Connecticut will pay no more than $18,500 out-of-pocket for tuition, fees, and room and board after all scholarships and grants have been applied.

An in-state commuting freshman not living on UB’s campus will be required to pay even less out-of-pocket — no more than $12,000 a year.

This maximum out-of-pocket cost includes any institutional, federal and state grants and scholarships that students receive in their financial aid package. For example, if a student plans to live on campus, the sticker price would be $43,840. If he or she initially receives a financial aid award that includes $18,000 in scholarships and grants, then his or her total cost would be reduced to $25,840. UB’s Connecticut Promise Program will award the student an additional $7,340 to cover the difference and bring the total down to $18,500—making their cost for an exceptional private school education lower than that of most public universities.

“We know that in today’s society, the overwhelming cost of higher education can hinder a student’s options for choosing the best college for their studies,” said Karissa Peckham, associate vice president for enrollment. “At the University of Bridgeport, we want to make it possible for incoming students to experience the benefits of a private institution without having to pay exponentially more than an in-state public school. UB firmly believes that a solid education should be both accessible and attainable.”

The University of Bridgeport is ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the most diverse national universities in the country, and its Connecticut Promise ensures that in-state students are given the opportunity to learn among fellow students from over 46 states and 80 countries.

The University of Bridgeport offers career-oriented undergraduate, graduate and professional degrees and award-winning academic programs in a culturally diverse learning environment.
