NORWALK, Conn. Nicholas Catino went round and round the inflated obstacle course set up at Wolfpit Elementary School on Saturday. His dad, the captain of the "Still Grumpy," piloted other children around the school yard with a tractor.
The annual Wolfpit Elementary School Pumpkin Festival was under way.
Nicholas, 6, and James Nuzzo, 8, ran about, heading for the bounce house after finally having enough of the slide. Softball stars Becky Stefantos and Mallory Rochefort, both 14, manned the football booth. And "Mr. and Mrs. Farmer Joe," Joe and Joann Catino, ran the hayride, a relatively new addition to the festival, which the school has done for more than 20 years.
"My daughter used to go to All Saints, he started it there, and we came here two years ago, so he did it here," Joann Catino said of the hayride. Usually, they transport people on the water with a charter boat service at Rex Marina.
Other activities included an Amber Alert registration booth, a trailer to teach children what to do in the event of a fire and information about Drug Abuse Resistance Education, better known as D.A.R.E.
Attendance was a little light as the festival began but organizers were hoping the good weather would make it a big day. "This is our biggest fund raiser," said Debbie Todd, a member of the Parent Teacher Organization.
