FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Starting times for the state championship football games involving Darien, New Canaan and Fairfield Prep were changed Thursday morning due to a forecast for snow this weekend.
Darien and New Canaan will now play for the Class L championship on Saturday, Dec. 14, at Boyle Stadium in Stamford. Kickoff is at 11 a.m.
Fairfield Prep will meet Southington for the Class LL championship Saturday at Central Connecticut State University at 1:35 p.m.
Tickets previously purchased will be honored at the new site for the Darien-New Canaan game. The Fairfield Prep game had been scheduled for Central Connecticut, but the starting time was moved up because of the weather concern.
According to a statement on the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference website, current weather forecasts are predicting snowy weather for the early evening on Saturday and continuing into Sunday. The scheduled was adjusted out of travel concerns for the teams, families and fans.
“We do not like making decisions based on advanced weather forecasts, but in this case the logistics of changing the schedule and giving teams, fans, and our sites as much notice as possible required an earlier decision,” CAS-CIAC Executive Director Karissa Niehoff said.
