FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield's Stratton Faxon Fairfield Road Races will be a top destination for state runners this weekend with a 5K on tap Saturday and a half-marathon Sunday.

Only a few spots are available for each race, as nearly 6,000 runners are expected between the two events.

The races begin at Jennings Beach. Saturday’s 5K starts off at 8:30 a.m., while the half-marathon on Sunday starts at 8:30 a.m. There will be beach parties following both races.

The race is hosted by Fairfield Firefighters. Runners from Ethiopia took the top four spots in last year’s race, while Ridgefield’s Lucas Meyer finished fifth. Tim Milenkevich, who is a coach at Targetraining in Westport, won the 5K. The top local woman last year was Caitlin Stote of Stamford, who won the 13-19 age group in 1:29:58. She was the eighth woman overall.

Runners should like Sunday’s weather forecast, which calls for lower humidity and a daytime high in the low 80s. The races should start with comfortable temperatures in the 60s. For more information, go to the race website.
