The preliminary round game begins at 7 p.m. at the Marist campus in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. The Red Foxes are 13-3 overall and won their first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship in 10 years with a 16-14 win over Quinnipiac. It is the first time Marist has hosted an NCAA game in any sport.
Bryant (8-9) earned its third straight trip to the NCAA Tournament with a 10-6 win over top-seeded St. Joseph’s in the Northeast Conference championship game. Bryant also beat second-seeded Hobart en route to the title. The wins over Hobart and St. Joseph avenged regular-season losses for the Bulldogs.
Marist’s team features Redding’s Patrick Eaker, a senior who played at Joel Barlow and Brewster. Eaker earned the MAAC Midfielder of the Year award for the second straight year. He was also named to the MAAC’s All-Conference team for the second straight year.
Bryant’s team includes Drew D’Antonio, a graduate of Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk; Wilton’s Brendan Devane; Ridgefield’s Brett Baker; Robert Cordisco of Weston; Darien’s Kyle Cornell; Stamford’s Jack Clippinger; Easton’s Kevin Maiorano, who played at Fairfield Prep; New Canaan’s William Gould; and Joe Marx and Anthony Johnson of Fairfield.
Baker has played in 15 games, starting two, and has two goals and three assists.
Wednesday’s winner advances to a first-round game Saturday at Syracuse.
