Macari Still Weighing College Options

New Canaan High School wide receiver Kevin Macari was not on the radar of many scouts at the start of the 2010 season. But after smashing just about every receiving record in the Connecticut state record books, many were expecting Division I schools to be fighting over Macari. But as National Signing Day came and went, Macari did not get the news he was hoping for.

"I've been telling everyone who will listen: I've been coaching this team for 30 years, and I've never seen the kind of athleticism in a wide receiver as I see in Kevin," New Canaan football head coach Lou Marinelli said. "To get the combination of speed and strength in a kid his size, with great hands is something else. It astounds me that he didn't get any offers from Division I."

As he watched his teammate Conor Hanratty sign to play with the University of Notre Dame, Macari said he felt pride for his friend and teammate. And he's content to wait for the right school for him.

"I'm really not disappointed. I want to be comfortable wherever I go or wherever I fit," Macari said. "I'm just going to work hard. I just need to prove it to myself that I can play hard wherever I go."

According to Marinelli, Macari has a full scholarship offer from the University of Rhode Island and a walk-on offer from the University of Miami. He was also accepted to Georgetown, Wagner, UPenn, Columbia and Dartmouth. UConn recruited only one wide receiver this year with not much need at the position.
