New Canaan 4 Red Locks Down Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – New Canaan Red Bantam 4th Grade football delivered an outstanding defensive effort in a win against Fairfield, 28-6.

NC Red had the ball first on offense and drove the length of the field with hard runs by Nick Gilio, Ryan McAleer and Robert Evans. The drive culminated with a 39-yard touchdown run by NC Red quarterback Andrew Smith. The PAT was successfully completed with a three-yard run by Nick Gilio. The NC Red offensive line did a stellar job opening holes on the first drive. Outstanding blocks by Steven Hoge, Alec Kazlauskas, Andrew Morse, Charlie Mullaney, Greg Korsun, Jack Anderson and Thomas Marshall enabled NC Red to score first.

On the second offensive possession, NC Red received the ball after a hard hitting NC Red defensive effort led by Nicky Hoge, Tyler Saitta, Thomas Marshall, Charlie Mullaney, Greg Korsun, Ryan McAleer, Xander Arnone, Robert Evans and Colby Gardiner. New Canaan's offense began its drive on its own 20 and moved the ball to its own 35-yard line. Nick Gilio capped the drive with a 60-yard touchdown run carrying half the defense with him. The extra point was successfully run in by Dylan McDonald, making the score 14-0.

After another defensive stop by NC Red, the offense took over the ball early in the third quarter. Ryan McAleer ended that drive with a 41-yard touchdown run. The entire right side of the NC Red line, led by Thomas Marshall, Charlie Mullaney and Steven Hoge, opened the hole for Ryan to score. The point after was successfully run in by Riana Afshar, making the score 21-0 at the end of the third quarter.

Fairfield mounted a drive ending in a score early in the fourth quarter, to make it 21-6. The next New Canaan drive was stopped due to a fumble recovered by Fairfield.

With the minutes counting down and Fairfield took to the air in an attempt to mount a comeback. This was abruptly ended with a pass interception by Robert Evans, who ran the ball back for a Pick Six touchdown of 61 yards.  The PAT was successfully run in by Andrew Smith, making the final score 28-6 New Canaan.

It was a great team win, said the NC Red head coach. There were outstanding efforts by Xander Arnone, Jack Anderson, Jaden Konspore, Andrew Eason, Zach Boland and Luke McPhillips and the entire team.
