NEW CANAAN, Conn. More than halfway through last season the New Canaan High boys lacrosse team's record stood at 6-6. Few people, other than the Rams themselves, thought they were a championship caliber team.
Then New Canaan finished out the regular season with a 7-1 run, battling all the way to the state finals. The Rams fell to a red-hot Wilton team in the finals, but the turnaround was one to remember.
In the above video, head coach Alex Whitten discusses that run and how the core group that led that squad is returning this season. He says the team will "live and die" by its 12 seniors as they battle perennial rivals Darien, Wilton, Greenwich, Ridgefield and Brien McMahon.
New Canaan begins its 2012 campaign on the road in a rematch of last season's Class M state championship at Wilton. The Rams battle the Warriors on Thursday, April 5, at 7 p.m.
Over the next week, until Opening Day on April 4, Main Street Connect will bring video previews of some of the top-ranked boys and girls lacrosse teams across Fairfield County. Keep your eye out for them on our sister websites and on our YouTube page .
