New Canaan High School's boys tennis team won its third straight Class L championship Wednesday as two singles players advanced to the quarterfinals and one doubles team reached the championship before losing at Yale University.
The fourth-seeded doubles team of Will Burger and Thomas Worcester advanced the furthest for the Rams, losing in the finals to Daniel Adajian and Reid Andren of Fairfield Ludlowe, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2. Adajian and Andren also took out New Canaan's top-seeded doubles team of Patrick Newton and Jacob Reisss, 6-2, 6-3, in the semifinals. Connor Hedley and Luke McDermott reached the semifinals for New Canaan and lost by default to Burger and Worcester.
In singles, seventh-seeded Nick Laub dropped a tough three-set match to Fairfield Warde's Ted Berkowitz, 7-6 (7-4), 5-7, 6-4. Chase Urban also reached the quarters before falling to Sam Cadwell of Daniel Hand, 7-6 (7-2), 0-6, 6-1.
New Canaan captured the team title with 25 points. It was the 27th state title for Dan Borgman, now in his 40th year as the Rams' head coach.
