New Canaan, Darien Ranked 1-2 By MaxPreps As Football Title Game Nears

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- New Canaan and Darien, ranked 1-2 in the latest MaxPreps’ football rankings, will meet for the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference championship on Thanksgiving.

The Rams (9-0) and Blue Wave (10-0) will play in Stamford’s Boyle Stadium on Thanksgiving. Kickoff is at 10 a.m.

Over this past weekend, Darien beat North Haven, 31-0, while the Rams beat Trinity Catholic, 47-16.

Brien McMahon’s bid to reach the league title game was derailed in a 33-17 loss to St. Joseph.

New Canaan and Darien met for the league title on Thanksgiving in 2008, when the Rams walked away with a 28-20 victory. New Canaan leads the rivalry, 49-35-2, while Darien won last year’s Turkey Bowl, 28-24. The Rams turned the tables on the Blue Wave in the Class L championship game, 44-12.

Fairfield Prep (7-3) is ranked seventh in the MaxPreps’ rankings after a 35-28 loss to Xavier. Greenwich (7-3) moved up to 11th with a 49-14 win over Danbury. McMahon slipped three spots to 19th.
