Marinelli's 300th Career Win Keeps New Canaan Atop State Football Ratings

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- New Canaan remained atop the MaxPreps state football ratings after the Rams won the 300th game in coach Lou Marinelli’s career Saturday against Greenwich.

New Canaan (3-0) defeated the Cardinals, 35-20. Marinelli has coached at New Canaan for 34 years after beginning his career in Westchester County, N.Y. He has won 281 games as the head coach for the Rams.

St. Joseph of Trumbull is ranked No. 2, while Fairfield Prep is ranked No. 5 and Darien is ranked No. 6. The Blue Wave host St. Joseph on Thursday at 6 p.m.

One of the biggest movers in this week’s rankings was Trinity Catholic of Stamford. The Crusaders climbed 23 spots and are now rated No. 34 in the state by MaxPreps. Trinity edged Fairfield Warde on Saturday, 17-14, on a last-second field goal by Sam Ruzzi. Trinity is ranked No. 1 in the Class S state rankings, which determines which teams qualify for the postseason.
