New Canaan Runners Head To Norwalk For Sam Elpern Half Marathon

NORWALK, Conn. -- The 38th annual Sam Elpern half marathon in Norwalk kicks off the fall running season in Fairfield County on Saturday.

The race begins at 8 a.m. at Fox Run Elementary School and is put on by the Lightfoot Running Club. Don Capone of Norwalk is the race director.

The two-loop 13.1-mile course begins and ends at Fox Run. Sections of the race take runners along Richards Avenue, West Norwalk Road, Weed Avenue, Nursery Street, Ponus Avenue and Fox Run Road.

Lenny Arias of Bridgeport led 249 finishers around last year’s course, finishing in 1:20:50. Danika Tibbetts of Norwalk won the women’s division in 1:37:20.

The race is the last of the season for Lightfoot Runners, who started the season in spring with the Mother’s Day 10k. The club held a series of races throughout the summer with runners accumulating points based on their finish. Sam Nadal and Lindsey Russo of Norwalk lead the standings heading into the final race.
