NEW CANAAN, Conn. New Canaan swimmer Christian Higgins helped the University of California win its second straight NCAA championship Saturday in Federal Way, Wash.
Higgins finished 13th in the 100-yard breaststroke and 20th in the 200 breaststroke. In the Pac-12 championship meet, Higgins took second in the 200 breaststroke and sixth in the 100 breaststroke to help Cal finish in second place.
Higgins will head to the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. for two weeks in May. He will also compete at the Olympic Trials beginning June 25 in Omaha, Neb., where he is seeded 17th in the nation in the 200 breast and 38th in the 100 breast.
California, which was ranked sixth in the nation entering the championship meet, won the meet with 535.5 points, followed by Texas with 491.
