NEW CANAAN, Conn. The New Canaan Under-12 Black girls soccer team dropped a hard-fought 2-0 contest to Fairfield on Sunday.
The game was scoreless in the first half, which was marked by stingy defense on both sides. New Canaans Danielle McKimm, Paulina Cortina, Katie Kennelly and Annie Neugeboren turned in strong performances.
The second half was much like the first, with tough defense and aggressive offense shown by New Canaan. Fairfield scored the first goal midway through the second half, despite the fine contributions of Allie Neugeboren, Anika Orndahl, Lauren Sechan, Anne Johnston and Spencer Handler. Fairfield scored the second and final goal of the match late in the game. Courtney Newman and Allison Fitzpatrick performed well in goal.
