In Westport, Sherwood Island State Park will host the Susan G. Komen For The Cure 5-kilometer run on May 11. The event, which will also include a walk, supports breast cancer education, screening and treatment programs across the state.

Greenwich will be home to a new half marathon on April 7. A one-mile swim at the YMCA of Greenwich on March 3 and the CancerCare 5k run on May 5 are also new additions to the Greenwich Cup series. Betteridge Jewelers of Greenwich is the new title sponsor of the series, which is presented by the Hospital for Special Surgery. Threads and Treads conducts the Greenwich Cup events.

The Susan G. Komen event  will include a 5k run, 5k walk, 1.5k walk and a run for kids. There will also be Survivor Recognition events. A similar race has been run in Hartford for nearly 20 years. That event will continue to be run. Registration is now available online.

Registration is also available online for the Greenwich Half Marathon. The race will start and finish at Tod’s Point. The CancerCare 5k replaces the long-running Greenwich Biathlon, a run-bike-run event that had been held for nearly 20 years, according to race director Mickey Yardis. The one-mile swim on March 3 begins at 8 a.m., and will include a pool party at the Greenwich YMCA afterwards.  Registration for the swim is available online. The complete race schedule for the Betteridge Greenwich Cup Series is on Threads and Treads’ website.

Previously announced was a new race scheduled for Danbury to benefit families of the Sandy Hook shooting tragedy. That 5k race will be run on March 23. The race has been capped at 10,000 runners. Registration is open online.
