NORWALK, Conn. Partners Café scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat ONeills Pub, 6-5, to win its first Wood Bat softball championship Wednesday at Calf Pasture Beach in the Norwalk Recreation and Parks tournament.
Partners, which also is known as Jimmy Brothers, beat ONeills in a 10-inning game in the winners bracket final nearly a month ago. Due to weather delays, the finals were postponed until Wednesday.
Partners scored four runs in the first on hits by Chris Tegano, Chris Smith, Donnie Smith and Drew Smith. Jeff Monahan added a sacrifice fly. ONeills fought back with four of its own, including a inside-the-park home run by Danny Nieves.
The game stayed tied until the sixth, when ONeills took the lead when Richie Sullivan tripled and scored on an RBI single. In the seventh, ONeills got two quick outs and was on the verge of forcing an if-necessary game. Partners rallied for two runs, as Jason Zachar and Chris Tegano singled. Chris Smiths single tied it and Donnie Smiths RBI single pushed home the go-ahead run.
ONeills had two out and two on in the seventh, but could not score the tying run.
