It was a somewhat rough day for New Canaans track teams at the FCIAC championships in Danbury, with both the boys and girls teams finishing eighth overall. Still, there was plenty to be proud of for Rams fans, with a number of solid individual performances to bolster the teams.
For the boys, the top performers were the 4-x-800 meter relay team, whichlogged the Rams only first-place finish with a time of 8:14.98. Also impressive were Kevin Macari, who came in sixth in the 100 meter dash (11.83 seconds), Eric Lysenko, whose 12-foot pole vault landed him in fifth, and Conor Hanrattys fifth place mark in the shot put (43 feet, six inches).
On the girls side, the Rams were propelled by a handful of strong runners. Caroline Murray came up with a pair of solid finishes, placing second in the 1600 meter run (5:08.46) and third in the 800 (2:19.55). Melanie Escalante also had two solid marks, taking second in the 400 meters (59.79 seconds) and seventh in the 200 meter dash (27.63). Steph Benko had a solid sixth-place finish in the 3200 meter run (11:46.18), and the third-place 4-by-400 relay team helped round out the Rams point total.
