New Canaan's Higgins Swims For Wahoos At Olympic Trials

WILTON, Conn. - Six members of the Wilton Y Wahoos swim program were selected to participate in the 2012 Olympic Trials in Omaha, Neb. Eric Ronda and Emily Weir of Greenwich, Robby Harder of Wilton, Christian Higgins of New Canaan, Shelby Fortin of Weston and Madeline Smart of Brookfield will represent the Wahoos at the trials, which begin Monday.

Weir, a 20-year-old junior at UCLA, will swim the 100-meter backstroke. Higgins, a sophomore at the University of California qualified for the 200-meter backstroke. Harder, a sophomore at Yale, will swim the 1,500-meter breaststroke. Fortin, a sophomore at Penn, will compete in the 400-meter freestyle.

Ronda, 17, a senior at Brunswick, qualified for both the 100- and 200-meter breaststroke. Smart, 17, a senior at Brookfield, will compete in the 100-meter freestyle.

The Wahoos are coached by Randy Erlenbach.
