Young New Canaan Runners Take 3rd In Wilton Cross Country Race

NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- The New Canaan Blazers youth cross country team finished third among six teams in the Wilton Invitational on Saturday.

New Canaan finished behind Wilton and Fairfield. A tiebreaker decided the battle for second place. New Canaan defeated Danbury, Ridgefield and New Fairfield.

Christian Meier finish second overall on the 1.5-mile course in 8:40.  

The New Canaan boys team included Bart Codd (second among seventh-graders), Patrick Colwell (third among seventh-graders), Dylan Imbruce (first among sixth-graders), Brendan Mulvany, Matt Sandor, Alex Rashad, and Fredrik Asker.

Competing for the NC Blazers girls’ team were Cameron Appleby (seventh grade silver), Skylar Bennett, Valentina Londono, Eva Finn, and Clara Hennessey.

The NC Blazers are coached by Bill Martin, head coach of the high school boys and girls teams at New Canaan. The third-year program is sponsored by New Canaan New Balance.

The team will be travelling to Brewster, N.Y., on Saturday, Sept. 20, for the Bear Classic Cross Country Invitational.
