The event begins at 7 p.m. and will include leaders from youth football, lacrosse, cheerleading, hockey and soccer, along with officials familiar with concussion laws.
The purpose of the meeting is to address how best youth sports organizations can manage their legal risk with the approaching wave of concussion lawsuits at the NCAA and high school levels. A recent story in the National Law Review indicates more youth sports leagues will face legal issues regarding concussions.
Guests include attorney Alan Goldberger, a nationally recognized authority on sports officiating and sports law; ESPN reporter T.J. Quinn; Jim Loughran, president of the Greenwich Youth Football League; Art Flynn, travel hockey co-director of the Darien Youth Hockey Association; Jack Couch of Norwalk, one of the region’s leaders in youth lacrosse; and leaders from the state in several youth sports.
The program was put together by Katherine Snedaker of Norwalk, a concussion educator and policy consultant. She is also the founder of PinkConcussions.com and has been a pioneer in providing information for the treatment, diagnosis and long-term affects of concussions.
The event is hosted by The Orthopedic & Spine Institute of Stamford Hospital and Chelsea Piers Connecticut.
