I wonder if the Boston bombers understood the cruelty of their act. That lack of humanity allows pro-Palestinians to accept missile bombardments from Gaza and blowing up Pizza parlors by guys from the West Bank. As to Apartheid notions, the Arabs cleansed Christians from the Bethlehem area and insist no Jews in their state, although roughly 20% of Israel's citizens are Arabs. View Comment
All truck drivers should have required lessons on Centrifugal Force, Center of Gravity, and maybe some other concepts. I saw that the truck was full; what a mess! A high heavy load would raise the center of gravity of the trailer to a dangerous level and make the vehicle difficult to slow on the steep descent of Route 9A.. View Comment
There are at least two mental deficiencies with Mr. West. The first involves a theory of the mind. This allows folks to understand what is in the minds of others. A couple of years ago a heroic off-duty policeman was shot to death by the White Plains Police. He should have known by training that the police were not going to know that he was a hero; they saw only a man with a gun. He knew that suspicion of him was ridiculous to him, but he seemed not to know that the police had no reason not to be wary of him. The man's tragic death broke my heart. In the instant case the dead man seemed to suffer paranoia and could not understand that the police were there in good faith to help him after his medical alarm went off.
Mr. West also lacks common sense. Why in the world would the police have it in for this particular victim? It makes no sense at all. The Amadou Diallo case had the same problem where people believed that four officers shot Amadou in cold blood out in the open on a street parallel to a street with around the clock police presence. It made no sense, but fed certain emotions wrongly held by many.
Mr. West is such a jackass that he was let go by the bastion of absurdity, Harvard university. View Comment
The biggest impediment to the eradication of polio from this world comes from imams. 9/11 and other horrific acts of terror - radical Muslims. I know where the the billboards belong.
Sadly, our president, through his association with Columbia University, took into his heart the Palestinian world view. In his recent address in Israel, he asked Israelis to walk in the shoes of the Palestinians who, like them, dream of a home land. The homeland in their dreams encompasses a land that is now Israel. If one walks in their shoes he would bomb pizza parlors. View Comment
Garbage trucks are large, and righting an overturned truck would take special skill I presume. The comment by stephano above asserts facts not in evidence about the speed of the vehicles. stephano might be right, but it is unwarranted speculation at this point. View Comment
Do you remember how chocolate caused acne? Teens like chocolate and have acne. But careful experiments showed that chocolate has nothing to do with acne. There are some stains of bacteria that carry out the curse.
Calories and obesity is a similar old-wives tail. Sandy Swartz followed the literature on obesity over the years. Her post
is terrific. It is hard to understand how Bloomberg was so successful as a business man and mayor with an Oprah-Show understanding of weight. View Comment
Tears ago I had a young man working for me who was frustrated by his assignment involving computer work. I pointed out to him that if all one had to do was push the number 6 key, we would not hire him to do that. Computers were new to our field at that time and I found that I could program the computer much easier than train a person for many tasks.
Anyway, taking tests is a job only for professional students,. Testing is ancillary to education and very useful, but it should not be an end it itself I applaud the school boards resolution.. View Comment
The Brooklyn Bridge is set on bedrock on one side and firm ground on the other. The Tappan Zee bridge is supported to a large degree by buoyancy, making it expensive to maintain. Capacity was added to crossing the East River by building more bridges when the Great East River bridge proved insufficient.
It is of interest that the specifications for the wire in the cables of the Brooklyn Bridge were more demanding than necessary. That conservatism paid off when it was found that the supplier of the wire to the project cheated on the testing of his wire. View Comment
The shooter really had it in for that kindergarten class, there was only one wounded to go with the all the deaths. As i understand the coverage, the guns were owned by the mother, and said weapons are ubiquitous. She worked with kindergarten children, so she probably would pass any mental health screen.
The event is terribly sad.
Representative Jan Schakowsky made cribs perfectly safe when she got the CSPC to ban perfectly fine cribs with drop down sides. The crib in the picture did not have a drop down side.
I am infuriated when people use a child's death to impose their foolish views of the world on the rest of us. View Comment
Boone Pickens used fracking for thousands of wells over decades with no ill effects. The PA pollution allegation was studied to death by the EPA, who found no problem with fracking.
Ms. Galep said that she studied the matter herself. But does she know how to filter hysteria from data? The State of New York did that with Love Canal and found no there there. Most people still believe in a Love Canal environmental catastrophe.
Yes, Pickens is an oil man. But he has very deep pockets. Wouldn't enterprising lawyers have milked him for making people sick?
Hucksters scared the daylights out of women with the breast implant cases. There was never any evidence to support the Plaintiffs lawyer extravaganzas. And Robetrt Kennedy Jr.'s recent vaccine scare actually murdered children. It's a shame that Ms. Galef's superstitions might prevent the people of New York State from realizing the economic benefits from fracking. She is a better than this.
The ACLU defended the right of Nazis to march in Skokie Illinois in 1977. But the march was canceled. The ACLU has zero tolerance for constraint of speech.
The public knows of the KKK, and it would be terrible if school administrators used this prank to justify self righteous political indoctrination. View Comment
I regret that school time was used to push a cause. Suicide is just one aspect of life as is bullying. No one should be surprised if the two phenomenon overlap at times.
If Ossining, with its award winning Science program, equates one incident with cause and effect in society, then it should return its award to a community deserving of it.
By the way, I feel bad for the loss of the boy. My son was bullied in grade school and children can be mean. But obsession about anything tends not to be good. View Comment
“To get a bridge to this point in a year was really just fantastic,” Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Wednesday during his cabinet meeting.
It seems that we have discussing the bridge replacement for at least a decade. Perhaps our Governor is megalomanical?
Maybe it's the perspective, but the proposed bridge is capital U ugly. View Comment
Mr. Anthony above should beware selective memory. William Kennedy Smith had to defend a rape charge in 1991. Mr. Smith, now Dr. Smith, was acquitted, but he had the economic and emotional cost of legal jeopardy. I feel that the district attorney brought the case for fear of political retribution for favoring a Kennedy. The accusation itself was absolutely ridiculous.
By the way, I disliked Edward and Robert Kennedy, and I despise Robert Kennedy Jr. View Comment
