The job of a college is not to train one for a job. If it were, it would be a trade school, not a college. The job of a college is to expand the mind. Students going to college should be looking to move beyond the mundane. Then, if need be, the student can go to graduate school and get a master's or doctoral degree in a more specialized area. College is not for everyone. Unfortunately, too many kids, who don't belong, are sent to college. They would be better served by trade schools. View Comment
To Borgia, Harckham, A. Williams, Boykin, Jenkins, Parker, Shimsky, and L. Williams -- Stop this silliness! You are like children fighting over a shovel in the sandbox. In fact, you all get an F in sandbox play. I am a Democrat. You are an embarrassment to the Democrat Party. View Comment

If New Rochelle financial reporting is so wonderful, why could I not find how much it spends on memberships to organizations and the sustainability function? Much wasted expenditure is hidden inside that alleged transparency! View Comment
Hey, Activist Bill, at least Ernie Davis in Mt Vernon is doing what we have been crying for Noam Bramson to do in New Rochelle and all Bramson does is line Forest City's pockets by giving away its City Yard to FCR to construct an ill-design apartment building that no one in New Rochelle wants (except Bramson!)! View Comment
UGH! I know. I already got mine. How much did Noam pay Bill to make the sound track for the robo-call?
I also got a robo-call from Nita Lowey for Noam Bramson and a robo-call from Noam Bramson for Mary Jo Jacobs ... and the beat goes on! Yawn! View Comment
As a New Rochelle resident, I do not understand from where Cuomo is coming when he says, "Government works best when it puts people, not politics, first. We have to deliver real results, and that's what Noam Bramson will do."
Are not PAST achievements the best indicator of FUTURE performance? In which case, look at Noam Bramson's past achievements:
Main St. is a mecca of 99-cent stores!
Main ST. and North Ave are meccas for store front churches.
Bramson's LDC provides low-cost-financing to Iona college so that it can take property off the tax rolls with his blessing.
Bramson voted for the two Avalon apartment buildings with their 30-year tax abatements, where the builders did nothing for New Rochelle and have long since sold the buildings for a capital gain and left new Rochelle in the dust.
Bramson now wants to spend upwards of $30 million to move the City Yard to another property that the DPW Commissioner has acknowledged is inadequate, just to free up "waterfront" property for his favorite developer, the infamous "I can't keep my promises" Forest City RAT-ner, to construct an unnecessary and unwanted 285-unit apartment building, with a mediocre 25,000 sq ft of retail space and a hidden public pocket park and, oh, yes, on a tax abatement and cheap financing from New Rochelle's IDA, again with the blessing of Bramson!
Bramson voted to raised New Rochelle City taxes by 109% or an average of 6.8% per year since he was first elected to the City Council in 1995 ... and, if New Rochelle property taxes (not just rates) are the lowest in Westchester, it is ONLY because Bramson voted to shift items off-budget to incur their own taxes (the library) and fees (garbage collection).
If Bramson has all this wonderful vision, I wonder where it was during his 18 years on the New Rochelle City Council!
What I see instead of vision is the Peter Principle: Man rises to his highest level of incompetence. Bramson has already reached that level as a part-time mayor earning $89,000 with a free car and health benefits for life. Please don't dignify his incompetence by electing him as WCE. View Comment
Mr. Greenawalt, You obviously do not live in New Rochelle. Noam Bramson has implemented NO forward-looking measures, unless you mean taking a salary of $89,000/year, medical benefits, and a free car for his part-time, ceremonial mayor’s position is forward-looking.
The City's Comprehensive Plan was under revision, when Bramson needed to run for Westchester County Executive so that he could make his big move up-county to Nita Lowey’s newly drawn congressional district. The CP was put back on a dusty shelf so that Bramson could push his precious Echo Bay project to get a “feather in his cap” for the campaign. Unfortunately, he picked an albatross for his feather. No one in New Rochelle wants it.
Have you seen the No Echo Bay signs on New Rochelle residents' front lawns? Echo Bay is a disaster. We do not want it, but like a true demagogue, Bramson is forcing it down our throats. Watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tx1-96S_iRE After 56 residents of New Rochelle attended 4 ½ hours of public hearings on Echo Bay and opposed it in a ratio of 10:1, what does Bramson say? Counting heads doesn’t count! Bramson is a dismissive, condescending and arrogant demagogue.
Also, this Waterfront Gateway Design Competition is a bogus and fraudulent competition and about as low things can go in New Ro. The City is attempting to give the same parcel of land to two different groups to develop!
Only Bramson is enamored of his Sustainability Plan. See how emaciated he looks? He eats too much rabbit food. The land-use strategy to preserve open space is only for his upper income friends in the North End. He wants 95% of all new development downtown within 1 mile of the train station in an area that is already overdeveloped and too dense.
As for sound investment in transportation and infrastructure, I defy you to show me where! The City does not have sufficient infrastructure to support this new-fangled concept of transit-oriented development. Worse, the City does not have the tax base to generate revenue to replace or repair the downtown infrastructure. Why? Because Bramson has supported residential development over commercial development!
The City got a grant to redo Flowers Park/City Field.
Do me a favor. Go back to Hartsdale and stay home on Nov 5th.
Sorry, Noam Bramson, you DO NOT look to facilitate dialogue, consultation, and cooperation. You just tell people what YOU know they need rather than what they tell you they want, to wit: the East End Civic Assoc. meeting in June 2013 where you told over 200 residents that they were getting Forest City's Echo Bay plan regardless of what they thought they wanted. And, then, again, in July 2013 at the public hearings on Echo Bay, where you told approx. 50 residents who took the time to write thoughtful comments and come to speak against Forest City's Echo Bay that it was "not about counting heads." If you like demagogues, vote for Noam Bramson. If you like dialogue, consultation, and cooperation, vote for Rob Astorino. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tx1-96S_iRE View Comment
Or maybe Bill Clinton would like to know about Noam Bramson's ONE black friend in high school. I love Noam's excuse: "There are very few black people in honors classes so you don’t get a chance to meet them.” Duh! New Rochelle in the 1980s was a very integrated school. My children attended NR high in the 1980s. They had black friends! Noam just didn't make an effort! http://wecantaffordnoam.com/nyt-special-report-noam-bramson-token-hs-friend/
To be fair, let Clinton judge for himself. Here is the Zuber Riders' letter. Note: Astorino has nothing to do with it or the Zuber Riders. http://www.yonkerstribune.com/2013/09/open-letter-to-new-rochelle-mayor-noam-bramson-by-new-rochelle-lincoln-zuber-riders-for-justice.html View Comment
Er, excuse me. Noam Bramson is currently Mayor (albeit a part-time mayor) of New Rochelle. Have you seen New Rochelle's Downtown lately? Sure, let's elect Bramson as County Executive and turn all Westchester County business districts into 99-cent store heavens! View Comment
