The roads that I would have to use are not safe for a bike.I do not think we even have a marked bike lane around here. Even the narrower back roads are a problem. I was hit in the shoulder by a mirror on an SUV on a back road, the driver just kept going. To bad I like to bike. View Comment
I doubt it will help. The cops have to stop someone first for some obvious infraction, and I don't think they could stop any more cars than they do now. View Comment
What a shame. Voting is a right that many have given their lives to preserve. The boards spent a lot of time and effort putting these budgets together and just a few residents came to vote. Taxes will go up because we have only ourselves to blame. The problem with Wilton today is that the residents who favor the taxes (school age children) don't take time to vote because they are sure the budget will pass, and those who do not favor the increase assume it is a lost cause anyway so why take the time. There was a time when the budget was defeated, but we were more frugal in those days and took the time to decide what was really needed. But why care, once the kids graduate, people leave town, and let future generations carry the load. Reminds me of Washington, but thats another story. View Comment
When our founding fathers gave citizens the right to own guns, the gun could only be fired about 3 times in a minute,at best. They never dreamed that there would be such a weapon as a semi automatic. I agree that gun magazine laws should be enforced, for all types of guns,, on a national basis. How about bringing back the death penalty for anyone using a gun to kill someone, or adding a substantial prison term for any crime committed using a gun.Increasing the use of mental checks should also be a priority.. The trouble is we are to soft on criminals. It takes forever for someone to get convictedI In CT all we do is put them in jail, at a cost to us. Concerned about your home? Buy a 12 guage shot gun with double O shot, and don't worry about the furniture. View Comment
I do not disagree with you at all on the populated areas. In my recent memory however the crashes I am aware of did not result from planes running into each other.I think one came down alone in Danbury in the recent past?,ATC would not have helped. In Boca last week, the plane lost power., ATC would not have helped in that situation. I have no idea what the traffic numbers are out of Danbury. I fly a lot in FL over the east coast and the small airports around here have approaches that pass over lot of population .The recent jet crash up by Detriot has not been determined, but it did not hit another plane. I do however recall the copter and the aircraft out of Teterboro the collided over the Hudson. I am not sure if they were under ATC . Finally I understand a budget was passed this AM (5:00), so at least we know congress is not asleep all the time.!!

There are a large number of Airports around the country that service a large number of smaller aircraft flights and have no control towers. While it is nice to have someone on the ground, pilots can communicate with each other and use VFR as needed. Seasonal airports are another example. Ever fly in Alaska? View Comment
During the am and pm trip Saugatuck to Newtown takes over an hour . 95 to rt 7 to 84.. Rt 7 can be a real mess. Some times I get on the back roads via Redding, but a lot of others have figured that one out. Off Peak I can make it in 40 minutes. View Comment
It will only hurt CT residents who need to use the roads, and many drivers willl find a way to get around it, just as they find ways to avoid clogged state roads(RT 7) by using the back roads. Traffic has become a lot worse since the tolls were taken down, and we don't need more obsticals. Things will get even worse while they build new toll stations. Taxes?? Give me a break. How many residents really believe that taxes will go down. There may be an initial drop in something, but CT has a habit of always finding a way to raise taxes going forward. Residents who have lived here for a while can fill you in on that . View Comment
Great. The original number was about 1.7%. How many of us got a 3 + % raise or have seen their property values increase by that amount?. If Malloy gets his $20,000 exemption in car values the budget % goes up even more. Great that means those of us who have kept our cars valued at less than $20,000 will see our mill rate increased and that makes us share even more in the towns lost revenue by being frugal!! When will this stop??? View Comment
Obviously a lot of famlies made their plans early so who can blame them for following through instead of losing deposits, reservations and changing transportation options for a fee. While Wilton puts a high value on education, the cost is over 70% of our town budget, family time is something that is more important, it can never be replaced. School courses can. View Comment
Unless there is a plan to fix the current traffic mess on the turnpikes, tolls are only going to add to the problem. The backup's would really be awful. Look at 95 and 84 now. They are packed just due to traffic flow. perhaps we can get some enviromental groups on the case, they can test for air quality from a stopped car, vs one going at highway speeds. I am also sure if they bring back tolls, a lot of towns will see increased traffic from cars getting around the tolls. Tolls are dangerous. While the stratford incident was terrible, there were also some other bad accidents at toll booths, including the one at the start of 95 at the NY Border, and on the Merritt, check the records. The financial benefit to the state is pie in the sky. Does anyone really believe it would offset our current taxes? We have heard that one before. View Comment
Of course Blumenthal is a liberal. He has so much money he can afford to be. What everyone today doesn't seem to care about is the debt our children and grandchildren will have to live with. With the debt this administration is building up it will be disaster. I am sure Blumenthal is setting up trusts to cover his family, thats OK, it will keep them in the top 1%. View Comment
If Wilton cannot collect a car tax they will just raise the mill rate on other property to replace the loss of revenue. It's the same old game, as with the lower home values, you can't win, even if you sell your home. One way or the other, State and local taxes are driving residents out.. There are also a lot of hidden taxes, like fuel and utilities, phone service, and numerous others. Perhaps the state is counting on Amazon??. Blame the republicans?? The Democrats control the legislator. Lastly, don't die in CT, they get you that way also. View Comment
Have we not had enough? How many companies have been able to increase salarys by over 4 %? I believe in a good education, but I also believe that we as a town need to become realistic on how much that should really cost. It seems like every year the largest cost in the town budget, schools, presents out of site increases that are based on throwing darts at the wall and hoping most of them do not fall off. This reminds me of our current national situation. The ones who will pay the price of outlandish spending are our kids and grand kids. In Wilton it is similiar, the current generation keeps putting more cost into the system, gets the kids educated. Then, if possible , sells the home, and moves on. This leaves the new residents down the road to deal with this expensive budget item!!! View Comment
