These laws would not have saved the Newtown children, and will not save one additional life in CT - it will actually cost lives with families who turn in guns or magazines in the false belief that they have to and will then be left defenseless.
But the Democrats think that's OK, 'cause the police will be there to clean up the mess and pick up the bodies. View Comment
Hopefully there will be several lawsuits in progress by Jan. 1, 2014 that these laws will be put on hold until their constitutionality is determined. View Comment
First, when you say the "diocese", you should state the religion since more than Catholics use that term.
Second, I find the appeal nice, but right now the State is taking enough out of my paycheck (without asking me, just going to the pols who are generous with OPM [other people's money] to buy votes) to cover the needs of several people NOT in my household - thanks but I'll keep what little I have left to take care of the five of us. Remember, here in CT we have the latest Tax Freedom Day - May 18 - in the entire nation! View Comment
The Republicans have sold out their members, the constituents who elected them, and violated their oath of office to defend the Constitution of the State of Connecticut. I'm leaving the GOP and joining either the Independents or the Libertarians - they at least are honest about their positions.
Shame on you Larry Cafero, and Dick Mocchia for that point. View Comment
The Democrats in Congress were the ones who took $75 BILLION from the health, benefits and retirement funds of the carriers and used that money for other purposes, mainly vote-buying. Then they required ONLY the USPS to fund those same benefits, etc. at 80%, while EVERY OTHER US Gov't Agency only has to fund at the 20% level. Why? Because at that time, the USPS was the only agency making money!
They did to the USPS what they've done to Social Security and Medicare - Screw the people who built it so they could personally benefit by it.
This is why there NEEDS to be TERM LIMITS!!!! View Comment
I want them to open up the TRUCK check point in Greenwich and build one at the other end of I-95 and both ends of I-84. Not only does the one in Greenwich pay for itself, it puts revenue into the state's coffers - let's do it now!
It hasn't been operating in Greenwich because of the moneyed people who don't like it - well, to bad. They can put up with it or pay more taxes. View Comment
Let's ban anything in the US that's used to kill people - like all our defense systems. Hey, let's take the guns away from cops because they only use them to kill civilians - remember that criminals are civilians and we wouldn't want any harm to come to them because they can all be rehabilitated.
Just check the stats on CT criminals and see why you're so safe - especially while you're waiting for the police to arrive to a threatening situation. View Comment
"It's a piece of metal" - so is a Patek Phillippe, the Eiffel Tower, a Ferrari, your wedding ring (assuming anyone would marry you), and any number of other things. Just because you don't like the object doesn't decrease its value or appreciation of it by others. View Comment
To Jim T:
They DESTROY them, usually by using a metal-cutting circular saw, slicing the barrel in half and then sending the pieces to a metal recycler. What a waste!
Maybe someday he'll give something precious or important to his kids and they'll turn around and dump it - and he'll remember what he did to his grandfather's memory.
And with Moccia as our mayor, we'd never get the opportunity to buy these guns and give the funds to the NPD because to him all guns are 'illegal'. View Comment
A 20 gauge High Standard Supermatic Deluxe shotgun for a $50 gift card!?!
Well, Dan Hoffkins, you could have received $1,000 for that shotgun if you'd also 'done the right thing' and taken it to a licensed gun dealer (like Bob's in Darien) and it would have been sold to someone LEGALLY who would have taken good care of a very fine shotgun. Instead, you gave your gift from your loving grandfather to uncaring people who will chop up this beautiful piece of engineering for scrap. And they won't have reduced the crime rate one iota.
I'd go down to the police station and LEGALLY buy some of these fine guns and then the Police Department could have the profits to supplement their stretched budget, but NO, they don't want that - they'd rather be politically correct and destroy the guns than get the money and put the firearm in a legal owner's hands.
Politically correct but illogical and wasteful; and then they complain they don't have enough money in their budget! View Comment
If she wanted to sell her body for basketball, baseball, football, tennis or hockey, and was any good, she might get millions, but to sell it for sex, she gets arrested. Of course, the article doesn't say if she is homeless, needs money for food or clothing or grandchildren - no, just that sex is involved so she is automatically made into an evil person.
Now if she traded sex for a marriage with a house on Greens Farms Road and a Mercedes and Cartier jewelry and Chanel clothes - that's OK. View Comment
The owner of the dogs was only fined!?!?!
Not only should he be made to pay the vet bills, the dogs should wither be confined permanently (since they have shown they will attack) or be destroyed.
Or will New Canaan wait until they get loose again and attack a child before they act reasonably. View Comment
I'll bet $100.00 that when this fellow is caught, the Norwalk Assistant State's Attorney definitely will NOT prosecute him under the "Project Exile" law - 53-202 - which would require 5 years MANDATORY sentence upon conviction! These politicos TALK TOUGH on the gun criminals, but when it comes to action, they WIMP OUT!
Let's DEMAND they prosecute to the FULL extent of the law!!!! View Comment
I hope when the shooter is found, he is prosecuted under Criminal Law 53-202 which requires a MANDATORY 5 YEAR SENTENCE! But I will guarantee that neither the Attorney General of CT nor any Assistant State's Attorneys will charge the shooter under this statute because they NEVER have!!!
The politicians and prosecutors say they are tough on crime - BUT THEY ARE NOT! They ignore the law when it's convenient.
If you don't believe me - ask one! Call the AG's office, talk to an ASA, or call your rep. I've talked to Sen. Bob Duff and Rep. Larry Cafero and neither has an answer. Mayor Dick Moccia can't tell me why either - but he's a member of the Mayors Against Illegal Guns and doesn't push to prosecute the offenders under our existing laws - some of the toughest in the US!
So who's to blame - gun owners of irresponsible politicians and lawyers??? View Comment
Legally valid or not, would the Daily Voice even support that or is it so anti-gun that the petition wouldn't satisfy their position?
Only they can tell us. View Comment
Our police do the best they can with the poor leadership they have had in Rilling and Moccia. The cops will be in their cars next to smokers who throw lit butts out the window and they don't do anything 'cause nothing will happen in court.
We have VERY SEVERE gun laws and penalties, but Moccia won't push for the Assistant State's Attorneys to prosecute them severely, he just makes noises and wants more laws against the law-abiding citizens - oh that's right, he's one of Bloomberg's lapdogs.
Why don't any of the 'witnesses' report anything to the cops? Because they'd be reporting - 'squealing' - on a friend/relative/running buddy and they don't have enough pride/guts/courage/principles to do that. Many have been brought up in the "Entitlement Society' started by Lyndon Johnson and perpetuated by the Democrats and the 'Race Pimps', like Sharpton, Jackson, and Rangel that they think everything should be given to them and most are unwilling to work for it, unfortunately.
The citizens of Norwalk only deserve the kind of city they are willing to live in - if they don't care or are unwilling to stand up for something better, then no one else should be asked to change it for them.
And the day I retire is the day I'm headed out of this state to a lower cost-of-living, a lower crime rate, and one where law-and-order and personal liberty is high on the agenda - and live among people who feel the same. View Comment
When the State's Attorneys finally decide to prosecute gun offenders under the CT Law 53-202 (h), (i) and (j), which imposes a MANDATORY 5 YEAR SENTENCE for ANY gun crime, maybe the gun violence in this state will go down!
CT Law 53 has been used in other states to reduce crime almost immediately wherever it was USED, but our present Attorney General and his Assistants - including Blumenthal, who got the law passed - have NEVER used it in a court case. Evidence the lack of any criminal charged in Norwalk - you hear about 'gun charges' but only a few years, NEVER 5 YEARS. Ask the prosecutor, "Why not?" Hold their feet to the fire as well.
I'm a LEGAL gun owner and want our state officials to truly ENFORCE our present laws to stop these acts. More laws against law-abiding citizens do NOT stop crime - putting the real criminals in jail will! Stop worrying about jailing the kid with the marijuna and jail the one with the gun! They want to 'play hardball', well so should we, legally.

Let's see if the Assistant State's Attorney will have the GUTS to charge this individual under 53-202 (h), (i) and (j) which would give him a 5 year MANDATORY jail sentence - or if they'll not even charge under this statute. In all the years they've had it, NO ONE HAS EVER BEEN CHARGED UNDER THIS LAW! And yet the politicians say they're hard on gun criminals. View Comment
