FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – The National Weather Service upgraded its winter storm watch to a full blizzard warning Thursday evening.
The warning starts at 6 a.m. Friday and continues until 1 p.m. Saturday. Up to two feet of snow was predicted for parts of Fairfield County, along with coastal flooding and strong winds.
Travel conditions are likely to be unforgiving and near impossible Friday night, Accuweather meteorologist Kristina Pydynowski told The Daily Voice. The storm is forecast to be the worst at night with a possibility of what Pydynowski calls “thunder snow,” when conditions are right for thunder and lightning to occur.
The day will start off fairly easy, she said. The drive to work should be doable, but the drive home could be dangerous.
“Fairfield County will have near blizzard conditions,” Pydynowski said, adding that the strong winds will cause significant drifting and pushing of the snow. “The wind will be howling tomorrow night.”
