Freeze On The Way: Arctic Front To Bring Record Low Temps To New Canaan

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- An arctic front approaching Fairfield County could bring record low temperatures later this week, according to the National Weather Service.

The arctic front will pass through the region late Thursday night, bringing the coldest air of the season to the area Friday into Saturday. Record low temperatures are possible Friday night, with temperatures falling into the lower to mid 20s, and as low as 15 in some regions. This will end what is left of the growing season.

Before that cold air hits, Wednesday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 47. Wednesday night will be mostly clear, with a low around 30.

Thursday will be mostly sunny during the day, with a high near 50. There is a 20 percent chance of showers on Thursday night before 11 p.m. otherwise it will be partly cloudy, with a low around 32. There will be a wind between 11 and 16 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph.

Friday will be sunny, with the temperature falling to around 30 by 5 p.m. There will be a northwest wind of 16 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Friday night will be mostly clear.

It will be sunny on Saturday, when the high will be near 37. Saturday night will be partly cloudy, with a low around 22.

It will warm up a bit on Sunday, which will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 46. There is a 40 percent chance of rain Sunday night, when the low will be around 36.
