Friday Storm Drops 5.3 Inches Of Snow On New Canaan

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Fairfield County received an average of about 4.5 inches of snow in the storm that hit the region Friday. The weekend will be clear, but the National Weather Service predicts that more snow will arrive Monday night into Tuesday.

The following are unofficial snowfall observations recorded over the past 25 hours, compiled by the NWS:

  • Newtown: 5.6 inches
  • New Canaan: 5.3 inches
  • Shelton: 5 inches
  • Monroe: 5 inches
  • Bethel: 4.5 inches
  • Weston: 4.2 inches
  • Easton: 4 inches
  • Bridgeport Airport: 4 inches
  • Stamford: 3.5 inches

Temperatures will fall into the teens by Friday night, with wind chill values of -5 and 5 as wind gusts pick up to 25 mph. The NWS warns that slush and standing water will freeze and black ice will form on untreated surfaces.

Saturday and Sunday will be partly sunny, with highs only in the mid-20s. Wind chills will make it feel as cold as 0 to 5 degrees. Overnight lows will drop to about 10 degrees.

And by Monday night, there's another storm in the forecast. The National Weather Service says there is 50 percent chance of snow.

And it may be a lot of snow: Hazardous Weather Outlook statement from the Weather Service says, "There is potential for a strong coastal storm producing a significant snowfall and strong winds Monday Night into Tuesday Night."
