GE Reportedly Eyeing Move From Fairfield County To Atlanta

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- General Electric Co. is having exploratory talks about relocating its headquarters to Atlanta from Connecticut, according to a story by Bloomberg.

GE also is considering other cities and isn’t close to an agreement, the story said.

The discussions signal the seriousness of GE’s threat in June to consider shifting its corporate offices out of Fairfield County after being based in Connecticut since the 1970s, the story said. The maker of locomotives and oilfield equipment said two months ago tax increases had made the state a tough place for business growth, the story said.

GE has about 4,900 employees in Connecticut, chiefly in the Norwalk offices of the GE Capital finance arm, and about 800 workers are in Fairfield County, the story said.
