The recently-opened Castle Bar and Grill is located at 488 Summer St. The restaurant is in the same location as a former Irish restaurant, The Playwright, which opened in 1994 and had a successful run in town before it closed. The new restaurant is owned by Damien Mc Clave.

The Castle features décor of a European castle, with artifacts and pieces from the ruins of castles in Ireland and Bavaria in Germany.

“It looks like you’re in Ireland and eating in a castle,’’ said Justin Stuart, the restaurant manager. “And the bar area is like an Irish pub. Besides the décor, we’re trying to be a bar and restaurant that has amazing customer service.”

The menu features salads, sandwiches and burgers, and a lot of favorite entrees from the old country. Among them are an Irish breakfast, Guinness Beef Pie and Cottage Pie.

The other features that make Castle unique, Stuart said, are a martini bar – “It’s unlike anything else you’ll see in Stamford,’’ he said – and a passion for sports. “We can get just about every sports event out there,’’ Stuart said.

The restaurant features high definition televisions and satellite receivers, and features games on a giant 120-inch wall projector.

“A restaurant like this is something Damien always wanted to do,’’ Stuart said. “We have great sports, the food is amazing, and the décor is unbelievable. We wanted to add something to the Stamford restaurant scene. We want to be a tier above.”
