NEW CANAAN, Conn. – Three full-length performances of New England Dance Theater’s production of "The Nutcracker" ballet, now in its historic 30th year, will be performed on the New Canaan High School stage at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4 and 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5 and Sunday, Dec. 6.
There will be an interactive children’s performance of Act II at 11 a.m. Dec. 5 and there also will be a special charity performance for members of local social organizations, such as the Carver Foundation of Norwalk, Person to Person in Darien and The Boys & Girls Club of Stamford.
This year’s production features a number of New Canaan, Stamford and Wilton residents in lead roles. Notably, Delia Creveling dances the role of the Kissing Doll and Severn Davies stars as the Night Fairy. Hailey Daniel leads the Snow Corp as its Queen, Madeline Friedland shines as the Dew Drop Fairy and Sophie Graham solos as the Arabian Princess.
"The Nutcracker," a classical two-act ballet based on the story by E.T.A Hoffmann, follows the enchanting journey of young Clara, who receives a Nutcracker as a gift on Christmas Eve. In her vivid, come-to-life dreams, her Nutcracker is transformed into a handsome prince, who leads her on a magical journey through an enchanted forest to his Palace of Sweets, where she meets the exquisite Sugar Plum Fairy and the people of the Land of Sweets.
"The Nutcracker" cast is comprised of more than 180 dancers and includes students from the New England Academy of Dance and professional guest artists from New York City.
“It is a magical time of year and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate it than by performing in 'The Nutcracker',” said Ginna Ortiz, one of the company’s directors.
Prices for the full performance are $30 for adults and $20 for seniors and children; prices for the children’s performance Dec. 5 are $20 for adults and $15 for seniors and children.
