The first is a solo exhibition by painter and mixed media artist Justin Kim. The second is the Silvermine’s annual "New Members Show," which will include work by 16 new members of the Silvermine Guild of Artists all elected in 2015.

In addition to these two exhibits, the gallery will show new acquisitions to the Gabor Peterdi International Print Collection.

Kim brings a 21st century sensibility to the tradition of landscape painting. Kim was chosen as Best in Show by critic Andrew Russeth in the 2014 Art of the Northeast competition, and this solo exhibition is the result of that award.

Kim explores themes and methods found both in traditional landscapes and modern ones. His work depicts space, light, and color while also exposing the methods and means (schematic drawing, synthetic color, constructed spaces).

The Silvermine's "New Members Show" will showcase the artists' excellence of technique, cultural or social relevance, clarity and continuity of style and professional accomplishment.

The new members are: Michael Brennecke (Westport), Leah Caroline (New Haven), Eric Chiang (Westport), Chris Coffin (Fairfield), Sara Conklin (New York City and Washingtonville, N.Y.), Lauren Cotton (Wilton), Rose-Marie Fox (Darien), Elisa Keogh (Norwalk), Michael David Kozlowski (Trumbull), Dan Makara (Redding), Perry Obee (New Haven), Mary Elizabeth Peterson (Westport), Bryan Reedy (New York City), Marlene Siff (Westport), Ian Smith (Ossining, N.Y.), and Lisa Thoren (Darien).

The Silvermine Arts Center is one of the oldest artist communities in the United States. Its 5-acre campus in New Canaan consists of a nationally renowned artist guild, an award-winning school of art offering classes for all ages, an arts and fine crafts shop and a gallery offering more than 20 contemporary and historic exhibitions annually.
