The School of Rock Ridgefield along with a coalition of gun violence prevention activists in Ridgefield have banded together for the "Concert Across America to End Gun Violence."

The local concert is scheduled for 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, at Ridgefield High School. Tickets ($20 plus fees in advance, $25 at the door) can be purchased in advance here. Other concerts will be held in locations across the whole country on Sept. 25, the date designated by Congress in 2007 as a day of remembrance for murder victims.

“The Concert Across America to End Gun Violence is a great opportunity for the students to see how music can change lives. These young musicians will raise funds that go directly to local organizations that are fighting against senseless gun violence on a national level,” said Mariola Galavis, owner of the School of Rock Ridgefield and the School of Rock New Canaan.

The Ridgefield event, to be hosted by Ridgefield High School, will be one of several concerts held across the U.S., each connected via social media and online at this link

All proceeds from the Ridgefield High concert will go to the Connecticut Against Gun Violence Newtown Action Alliance.

Local musical partners will include School of Rock Ridgefield; School of Rock New Canaan; School of Rock Fairfield; School of Rock Bedford; Ridgefield Music and Arts Center; and Ridgefield Suzuki School.

“It is unbelievable that, as students, we have seen so many unnecessary deaths of kids in schools, in homes and in the streets because of weak gun safety laws. Our band is thrilled to join the fight against gun violence by playing music and bringing the community together to raise awareness,” said Ben Teolis,17, of Wilton and a student of the School of Rock New Canaan.

The lineup for Ridgefield will include performances by the Ridgefield High School Jazz Band, Ridgefield Music and Arts Center, Ridgefield Suzuki School, and the School of Rocks from Ridgefield, New Canaan, Fairfield, and Bedford, N.Y.
