DARIEN, Conn. -- The Darien Arts Center has tapped Jeffrey Mueller, gallery director at the Silvermine Arts Center in New Canaan, to judge the center's 57th Annual Art Show and Sale in Darien.

The event will take place from May 30 through June 6 at the Darien Arts Center’s Weatherstone Studio, 2 Renshaw Road. Mueller will judge entries from a variety of mediums from local artists, including acrylic, oil, watercolor, drawing/pastel, mixed media/printmaking and sculpture, as well as both color and black-and-white photography.

The winner of best in show receives a solo exhibit in Darien Town Hall in the spring of 2016. The art show and sale offers cash rewards and is open to Darien Arts Center students, children and adults who live or work in Darien. Nonresidents may also enter the show with a donation to the organization.

Mueller, an adjunct art history professor at SUNY Purchase, Sacred Heart University and Western Connecticut State University, has worked one-on-one with many area artists, including with the nearly 300 Silvermine member artists.

He has 20 years of experience as an art curator, curating over 200 exhibitions at institutions throughout Connecticut and New York. Mueller -- who holds a BFA in photography from RIT and an MA from SUNY Purchase in Modern and Contemporary Art/Criticism and Theory -- has worked with galleries such as Christie’s Auction House, George Eastman House and the Hyde Collection to name a few.

Artists are encouraged to pre-register online at through 7 p.m. May 26. Adults can enter up to two pieces at $20 per submission; children fees are $10 per piece. All artists submitting two pieces are asked to designate one for sale. A 25 percent commission on each sale benefits the Darien Arts Center. Artists can also bring their work the Weatherstone Studio from 2 to 8 p.m. on May 26 only.

All pieces must be ready to hang with a wire on the back. The DAC will provide wiring assistance at the drop-off site for a small fee.

The DAC will play host to its award reception from 7 to 9 p.m. on May 29. The show is open to the public from noon to 5 p.m. every Saturday between May 30 and June 6.

Further information on the show and sale or about the Darien Arts Center can be found by calling 203-655-8683 or online at .
