NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- Happy birthday To New Canaan’s Warren Smith.
Smith, who has owned a home in New Canaan, turns 93 on Monday. The writer was born Oct. 27, 1921, in Minburn, Iowa.
Smith started his career with the Army (1942-46) and later worked as a teacher for 37 years in many progressive schools, including as the chairman of English department at New Canaan High School from 1954-86.
He founded Hvmanist Book Clvb in New Canaan, using the name Lvcretivs (1957-62) and founded the Taursa Fund (1971-73).
He also wrote many of books like "Who's Who in Hell" in 2000, "Celebrities in Hell" in 2010 and "In the Heart of Showbiz" in 2011.
He started the Variety Recording Studio, a major independent company off Broadway in New York City and ran the company for almost 30 years (1961–90). He was one of the signatories of the 1973 Humanist Manifesto II as well as the Humanist Manifesto III in 2003.
He is currently working on his magnum opus: a Web site called Philosopedia.
