NEW CANAAN, Conn. – Seven area artists that met in a journaling and bookmaking class led by Fairfield artist Susan Newbold have merged together for a collaborative group show that will be kicked off with a reception from 2-4 p.m. Sept. 15 at the Silvermine Arts Center in New Canaan.

After meeting in class, the group  joined creative forces to produce handmade books, personal journals, paintings, sculpture, work on paper and furniture -- all of which will be featured at the “Beyond the Book” show.

“Beyond the Book” will continue through Oct. 26 at the Silvermine Gallery: 1037 Silvermine Road, New Canaan.

According to a recent release from Silvermine, the seven artists -- Kerry Brock, Shiela Hale, Barbara Harder, Stephanie Joyce, Elisa Khachian, Claudia Mengel and Susan Newbold -- “employed the concepts, craft, and content of personal journals and crafted books to create artworks that go “Beyond the Book."

The artists began collaborating after attending Newbold’s “Illuminated Journal” workshops, in which they begin working closely together to produce a shared artistic vision.

For more information about the exhibit, visit the Silvermine Art Center website or call 203-966-9700.
