NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- St. Mark’s Episcopal Church will expand its May Fair, recognized as Connecticut’s largest one-day fair, to two days with the addition of a Friday night opening to complement the daylong Saturday fair.

The Friday Night Lights program, to be held on the church grounds at 111 Oenoke Ridge, will offer carnival rides, music from New Canaan School of Rock students and special food concessions from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. May 8.

”We are pleased to introduce May Fair’s inaugural Friday Night Lights. May Fair has always been a special tradition for our town, and we are excited to make it a special weekend of the year, particularly for the youth fairgoers,” said the Rev. Peter Walsh, St. Mark’s rector. For the first time, St. Mark’s will sell an unlimited-rides wristband for $25 exclusively for Friday Night Lights attendees. Single-ride tickets will also be available.

On Saturday, May 9, the daytime portion of the May Fair will kick off at 9 a.m. (running until 7 p.m.) with its full array of rides, games, entertainment, white elephant and book sales. Lunch and snack foods will be available for purchase, including grilled chicken, smoked brisket, corn on the cob, hot dogs and hamburgers, pizza, ice cream, and many other treats, including strawberry shortcake.

The food court will open at 11 a.m. and serve until 5:30 p.m. or until supplies run out. Pivot Ministries Men’s Choir will perform gospel music during the lunch hour.

The plant tent offers  flowering gifts for Mother’s Day purchases. Sale hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. For the Saturday portion of May Fair, a special bike parking area will be available to encourage guests to ride to May Fair instead of driving cars and hunting for a parking spot.
