Connecticut's First Round Of Layoffs Affects Mentally Ill, Homeless

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- The first round of state layoffs began at the end of the workday on Monday, hitting the Department of Children and Families and the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, reports the Connecticut Mirror.

Those departments lost 165 employees and with it, programs for the mentally ill, those in recovery, the homeless and more, reports the Connecticut Mirror.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy says up to 2,000 state workers could lose jobs as the legislature works to balance the 2016-17 fiscal year budget, which has a deficit of more than $900 million, reports the Connecticut Mirror.
