Goodacre spoke in an exclusive interview with People magazine along with her husband, talk show host, musician and actor Harry Connick Jr.

The 53-year-old former Victoria's Secret model also said she has been struggling with weight gain from drug regimen — she takes Tamoxifen — as part of her recovery, according to People.

Connick said via Twitter on Wednesday: "thank you @people, for giving jill and me the opportunity to share this... if this info can help just one person, we’re happy."

Goodacre was diagnosed five years ago with Stage 1 breast cancer — invasive ductal carcinoma — after a biopsy, then underwent have back-to-back surgeries and radiation. The lump was initially detected with a sonogram, not a mammogram, according to People.

"I was scared I was going to lose her, absolutely. I wasn’t going to let her see that, but I was," Connick told People.

Goodacre told People about the side effects of the medication. "I've always been a pretty fit person, and so to be just rounder and heavier and not to really be able to do much about it — that’s been hard. It’s taken a lot out of my self-confidence," she said.

They kept her diagnosis private to not "somehow jinx it," she told People.

But Goodacre and Connick came forward after her five-year mark to call attention to breast cancer and help other women.

Jill Goodacre will appear on her husband's talk show, "Harry," on Thursday. The shows airs at 1 p.m. on NBC Connecticut and at 2 p.m. on Fox 5 from New York.
