NEW CANAAN, Conn. New Canaan town departments are again being asked to hold the line on how much money they ask for in the 2012-13 budget.
New First Selectman Robert Mallozzi III has asked all department heads to submit budget requests that have no increase or are up to only 2.5 percent more than they received in the 2011-12 fiscal year. Mallozzi discussed his request Tuesday night during a Board of Finance meeting.
Mallozzi said the town was still navigating through tough financial times and said town offices must hold the line on spending. The increase includes what departments should anticipate in employee raises. This is part of the process, Mallozzi said. They understand the pressures homeowners are facing.
The town is operating under a $121.6 million budget. The New Canaan Board of Education has the largest piece of that pie, with a budget for this year of $73.1 million
Mallozzi expects to receive initial department budget requests for review Jan. 10.
