Stamford Police Capt. Richard Conklin gave credit to the staff at Chelsea Piers, Stamford Hospital and Yale-New Haven Hospital, the Advocate said.

The boy, who was not identified, had been attending a soccer day camp at Chelsea Piers. The kids were taking a break in the sports facility's Splash Zone, when the accident occurred at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

He had been underwater for about four minutes when he was pulled from the small pool by a 23-year-old lifeguard, the Stamford Fire Department said.

"Chelsea Piers staff pulled the child from the water and were performing patient care upon our arrival," the fire department said. Fire crews assisted Stamford EMS in transporting the boy to Stamford Hospital. He was airlifted later to Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital.
