New Canaan Couple Died Of Gunshots To Head

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – The man and woman who died Friday in an apparent murder-suicide both died of gunshot wounds to the head, according to the state's Chief Medical Examiner’s Office.

James Owen, 48, shot Billie D. Falgout-Owen, 52, on Friday afternoon inside the condominium, New Canaan police said, and then shot himself. Officers responded to the scene after receiving reports about a gunshot being fired on Park Street near Maple Street. Officers found Owen and Falgout-Owen deceased inside the condominium at 131 Park St. Sgt. Carol Ogrinc said the shooting was still under investigation.

The Park Street case is the first murder in New Canaan since 1987, Ogrinc said.

Falgout-Owen’s sister, Dayna Falgout Eddy, thanked residents for their concern. “During this tragic time, the family of Billie Falgout-Owen thanks you and the community for your outpouring of concern,” Falgout Eddy said. “However, we have no comment on the subject, nor do we care to release any information. We ask that you please respect our privacy. We are mourning a great loss. Thank you.”

James Owen had worked as director for Bank Street Group LLC, an investment banking firm based in Stamford, since 2005. Spokesman Richard Lukaj said the company is “shocked and deeply saddened by this tragedy. We extend our most sincere sympathies and we ask that everyone please respect the privacy requested by the affected people during this most difficult time.”
