Norwalk Man Facing Drug Charges in New Canaan

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – A Norwalk man is facing a charge of planning to sell marijuana after New Canaan police said they found him with the drug and several baggies during a traffic stop.

Matthew Edwards, 19, of North Taylor Road, Norwalk, was charged last Tuesday with intent to sell marijuana, a felony, and possession of marijuana. Police said they pulled Edwards over at about 4 p.m. on Smithridge Road near Twin Pond Lane after he was spotted with a defective brake light. Police dispatched the Police K-9 unit Zira to do a check of the car. Police said they did not find any drugs on Edwards or his 18-year-old passenger, but located a glass jar underneath the seat. Police said the jar contained a plastic sandwich bag that contained four smaller bags and marijuana. Police said they also found seven small plastic bags with marijuana inside of a potato chip bag.

Edwards was released on $500 bond and is scheduled to appear Friday in Norwalk Superior Court.
