NEW CANAAN, Conn. A 28-year-old White Plains, N.Y., man was charged with driving under the influence after a car accident Sunday in New Canaan, police reported.
Anthony Torres' vehicle collided with another car at 11:26 a.m. Sunday on Smith Ridge Road near Country Club Road. Police said Torres failed a field sobriety test. A glass pipe with marijuana residue was found in his vehicle. Neither Torres nor the other driver, a 61-year-old New Canaan man, were injured. Torres was also charged with following too closely and improper passing. He posted $250 bond and is scheduled to appear Norwalk Superior Court on Dec. 22.

Jane H. Delano, 53, of Elm Street, was charged last Thursday with driving while intoxicated. An officer responding to a report of a possible drunken driver found a car matching the description near a liquor store on Elm Street. Police said Delano showed signs of intoxication, including unsteadiness on her feet and alcohol on her breath. Delano posted $260 bond and was ordered to appear Dec. 22 in Norwalk Superior Court.
Kenneth L. Hill, 45, of Riverview Drive, Stamford, turned himself in to police Saturday on a pair of warrants charging him with second-degree failure to appear. Police said Hill failed to appear in Norwalk Superior Court twice between April 21, 2010, and last Tuesday. They said he was given an infraction for being intoxicated and creating a public disturbance Oct. 22, 2009, at the Dunkin Donuts on Elm Street. Police said Hill was also arrested on March 17, 2010, and charged with third-degree criminal mischief for an incident at the New Canaan Library. He was ordered held on $15,000 bond and appeared Monday in Norwalk Superior Court. According to state court records, his next appearance is Jan. 4.
Police were investigating a vehicle break-in at a Waveny Park parking lot Saturday. They said a Norwalk womans car was broken into in the lot near the Spencers Run dog park. The woman parked her car at about 1:10 p.m. and came back an hour later to find the rear passenger side window broken and her shoulder bag taken. It contained a wallet, her debit card and her drivers license, police said.
Police were searching for the person who stole hardware from a van parked in a driveway. Police said a 77-year-old man from Marvin Ridge Road had tools in his unlocked vehicle. Police said the man discovered last Wednesday that two chainsaws, two electric drills, three extension cords and an automotive battery charger were missing. The items have a combined value of $350, police said.
