Official: New Canaan Residents Should Stay Off Roads

NEW CANAAN, Conn. — The following is a message from New Canaan Emergency Management Director Mike Handler.

At 3 p.m. Friday, we moved the New Canaan Emergency Operations Center to partial activation. All of our emergency services are fully staffed and prepared to respond as needed.

Gov. Dannel Malloy just issued an order prohibiting all vehicular traffic, including passenger vehicles, on all state roads. The conditions of the roadways continue to deteriorate, and at this time we are advising all residents to stay off of the roads.

Our primary concerns are as follows: Emergency 911 response during peak snowfall and the potential for power outages due to high winds and downed trees.

As of 4 p.m., we have 279 homes without power in the Heritage Hill Road area as a result of a motor vehicle accident involving a utility pole. Connecticut Light & Power crews are on scene and restoration is now anticipated by 8 p.m.

Please call 911 for any police, fire or medical emergencies. To report a power outage, call CL&P at 800-286-2000.

Our Facebook page is now being monitored, and should the need arise, I will open our EOC Call Center. Stay home, off the roads and enjoy the snow.
