Police: 911 Call Logged for Ponus Ridge Crash

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – New Canaan police received a call from Michael Savage's cellphone the night of the car wreck that resulted in the death of his 74-year-old father, the department announced Tuesday.

Sgt. Carol Ogrinc said the department got the 911 call at about 10:25 p.m. Dec. 22. The caller, who police believe to be Savage, stated he had just crashed on Ponus Ridge Road. The call then ended.

Ogrinc said Tuesday the call lasted for “a couple of seconds.” She did not know whether the call was dropped or Savage hung up, although she did note that the area where the crash occurred does not have reliable cell service. The accident was entered into the New Canaan Police log at 10:26 p.m., she said.

Savage was reportedly driving when a 2009 Maserati Quattroporte. His father, James Jackson Savage of Seattle, was a passenger in the vehicle and died at the scene. Michael Savage was located the next morning, eight hours after the wreck, at Stamford Hospital. Police said Savage told them he would speak with them when his attorney, Joseph Colarusso, was present.

Ogrinc said officers have yet to speak with Savage, but they are making attempts to do so.

The fatal wreck remains under investigation, and no charges have been filed.
