The ALA says books are challenged for inappropriate content, offensive language, religious viewpoints or being sexually explicit, reports the Huffington Post.

The top three challenged books were,

  • "Looking for Alaska," by John Green
  • "Fifty Shades of Grey," by E.L. James
  • "I Am Jazz," by Jessica Herthel and Jazz Jennings
