BEDFORD HILLS, N.Y. -- Eric Vandercar, a 53-year-old Bedford Hills resident, was one of six passengers killed in Tuesday's train crash in Valhalla.

Vandercar was a married father of two who worked at Mesirow Financial as senior financial managing director in institutional sales and trading. Vandercar started as Mesirow in March, having spent 27 years at Morgan Stanley.

“Eric was not only a pillar in our industry, he was a great partner and friend to many,” Mesirow said in a statement to Bloomberg Business . “Losing him is a huge loss, personally and professionally. Our entire Mesirow family is hurting and our deepest sympathies are extended to his wife, Jill, and their family.”

Morgan Stanley also released a statement saying they were deeply saddened by his tragic loss.

Last November, Vandercar was elected for the second year in a row to the first team of Smith's Research and Grading Municipal All Star Team.

In Bedford, Vandercar attended Temple Shaaray Tefila where his son celebrated his Bar Mitzvah last year.

A devoted fan of live music,  many music tapers paid tribute to Vandercar after his passing. Known as Eric V., he posted his recordings at archive.org .

"After spending tons of time listening to Eric's recordings, I finally met him a few years back and I'd bet my experience was similar to those who meet famous people they've grown up respecting," Scott Bernstein of JamBase.com said. "I was a little in awe, to be honest. While I only met Eric one time and subsequently had a few chats with him, he had a major impact on me and I can't express enough what a good guy we've lost."

Vandercar's favorite band, moe. paid tribute to him on the band's Facebook page. Vandercar regularly attended and taped their concerts.

"We’ve lost so much more than a major moe. fan, we’ve lost a very good friend," the band said. "Eric Vandercar will always be remembered - whether he was enjoying the music from the front row, or hanging out backstage with us, chatting with that easy smile of his. He was there during our early days at the Wetlands, and we just recently got to spend time with him in Jamaica."

According to News12, Vandercar's funeral will be held Friday at Temple Shaaray Tefila at 12:30 p.m.
