Paula Abigail Ryan, 65, Of New Canaan, Teacher At St. Aloysius School

NEW CANAAN, Conn. - Paula Abigail Ryan, a resident of New Canaan for more than 30 years, died Monday, Jan. 20. She was 65.

Ryan was born April 16,1948, in Chicago, daughter of George and Sara Marz. She was a graduate of Purdue University, where she received a bachelor’s in psychology and went on to receive her master's in education. In recent years, she obtained her administrative license at Sacred Heart University.

She was a teacher for more than 40 years and taught fifth grade at St. Aloysius School for the last 13 years.

Ryan was a parishioner of St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church. For 15 years, she gave her time to the St. Aloysius Youth Group Program and was the Emmaus XXXVI Rectora. She was a Eucharistic minister.

Ryan is survived by her son, Dr. Scott Patrick Ryan, M.D. (Dr. Megan Ryan, M.D.) of Boston; and daughters, Heather Ryan Gallerstein (Michael) of Boston and Katherine Anne Ryan of New Canaan. She was predeceased by her parents; and husband, George E. Ryan Jr.

There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 24, at St. Aloysius Church, 21 Cherry St. in New Canaan. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Paula A. Ryan may be made to the St. Aloysius School to support the Paula and George Ryan Humanitarian Award given to an eighth grade boy and girl upon graduation, or to the Bennett Cancer Center, at Stamford Hospital.
