NEW CANAAN, Conn. — New Canaan was hit by two home burglaries, and a pair of suspects caught on camera by a home security system were able to flee Wednesday afternoon, police said.
A Birchwood Avenue homeowner was alerted by his video surveillance system that a person was at his house just before 12:20 p.m., police said.
It was at that time that the homeowner watched as the two suspects forced entry into his home through a rear door, police said. The homeowner immediately called police, and officers were dispatched. Upon arriving, officers were unable to apprehend the suspects, who fled in a white four-door hatchback older model 2000-07 Subaru Impreza missing a front license plate.
Two hours later, an Old Norwalk Road resident reported a burglary, with entry made through an unlocked door, police said.
In both incidents jewelry and other items were taken, police said.
New Canaan Police encourage all residents to set alarms, lock doors and install security cameras. They also ask residents to call the New Canaan Police to report any suspicious activity, persons or vehicles.
Any person with information on either burglary is asked to contact Officer Patten of the New Canaan Police Investigative Section at 203-594-3520.
