Conn. State Police Issue Thousands Of Tickets Over Labor Day Weekend

Connecticut State Police issued thousands of tickets over the Labor Day weekend, ranging from speeding to using a cellphone, in an effort to keep drivers safe.

The enforcement period, which ran from Friday to midnight on Monday, focused on drunken driving violations, with DUI checkpoints in place over the entire time period. In addition, police said they were also on the lookout for speeders, and distracted and aggressive drivers.

Tickets included: 

  • Speeding -- 1,699. 
  • Seat belt -- 165. 
  • Other hazardous moving violations -- 3,552 ( including unsafe lane change, following too closely, cell phone, texting, etc.).
  •  DUI arrests -- 51. 
  • Accidents investigated -- 283 with 43 injuries (no fatalities).
